A playlist for prayer
I spent last week at the Liturgical Composers Forum, so while I am playing catchup this week, I wanted to shift gears and share a few musical resources.
The last two weeks, it’s felt like the weekend Scriptures are already pointing us toward Lent. So here are some of my liturgical songs that fit into the season of Lent.
First is God in the Barren Spaces (publishing link). This pandemic-era video was put together by my music editor, and I was honored to play flute for it.
Come, All You Thirsty won Song of the Year in 2022, which was… humbling. It is the first of my music to be included in OCP’s Breaking Bread hymnal (beginning fall 2024).
The other two have no video, but there are recordings on the Preview tab.
Enter In is an examination of conscience for any time of year. WLP/GIA did a gorgeous job with the recording.
For Rest In God, My Soul, I did the demo recording with my friends Orin Johnson and Shannon Cerneka (also known as Oddwalk) last fall. All the women singing are me, as well as the flute. I know it’s not very reflective or prayerful to talk about, but I can’t stop, because it’s my first experience with a recording studio, and it was an eye-opener! :) Regardless, I hope you find it a prayerful listen.
Finally, I want to share something for all those touched by dementia. We sang this hymn in a much more straightforward presentation last week at our gathering, and it was so moving. I hope it blesses you as it blessed me.
